“While formulating clean and green beauty products, formulators demand alternatives to petroleum-based ingredients like paraffin oil, petroleum jelly or silicone. This is due to side effects of such ingredients on the body, as well as due to increased awareness about environmental conscious sourcing.”
GCI reached out to industry insiders to learn about the recent trends in clean ingredients in a changing beauty market.
Rahul Shukla, business development manager—ayurvedaceuticals and herbaceuticals, ICSC A/S, says, “With increased use of botanical ingredients and scarcity of sustainable farming of such plants, manufactures are facing challenges of geographical and seasonal variations and getting into roots of productions. Thus, technologies are to be developed for sustainable production of these ingredients.”
Vaijnath Lad, manager—creative cosmetics technologies, ICSC A/S, says, “As a most sustainable way to produce cosmetics ingredients, ICSC A/S recently launched Cosmosil HB (holy basil) Oil and Butter. The holy basil plants are grown in ICSC’s inhouse vertical farming facilities in Denmark by a completely sophisticated sustainable process that requires no soil, 70% less water and the entire complex is powered by solar energy. In vertical farming, no chemicals or pesticides are used. Several products are in the pipeline for sustainable clean and green cosmeceuticals.”
Shukla adds, “While formulating clean and green beauty products, formulators demand alternatives to petroleum-based ingredients like paraffin oil, petroleum jelly or silicone. This is due to side effects of such ingredients on the body, as well as due to increased awareness about environmental conscious sourcing.”
